Training for Climbers

Welcome!

This training website has been designed to help sports climbing enthusiasts become more familiar with different elements of the sport and improve their climbing, belaying, and safety skills.

The lessons include the following information:

1. What a climber will need to know and demonstrate to pass a belay certification test at an indoor climbing gym.
2. What a climber will need to know and demonstrate to pass a lead certification test at an indoor climbing gym.
3. What a climber will need to know to safely climb outdoors on natural surfaces.

The content in the lessons is intended to be informational and interactive. In other words: Practice! The information is only beneficial if you apply it while climbing, so grab a partner and practice!

Required Gear

The required gear for these lessons:
1. A climbing harness
2. A climbing rope, or rope segment (for practicing knots)
3. An ATC belay device with locking carabiner
